Nobody Leaves Mid-Hudson – 2018 Frederick Douglass Award Recipient

Nobody Leaves Mid-Hudson is a community of New Yorkers taking action on issues that directly affect their lives. At the forefront of utility justice, they ran a multi-year campaign pressuring the New York Public Service Commission to investigate and change the policies of Central Hudson Gas and Electric (the local monopoly utility company). The resulting public report made clear that their local utility disproportionately shut off services for people of color, leading to an overall decrease in shut-offs.

They’ve also taken an outsize role in the Hudson Valley for immigration justice, organizing immigrants and allies to demand municipal IDs in cities across the Hudson Valley, statewide driver’s license accessibility, and a clean DREAM Act. They anchor the Consejo advisory committee of directly impacted immigrants for the statewide Green Light campaign for driver’s license access, where they also serve on the steering committee.
